Holiday Decor Ideas That Evoke Emotions
As seen on WGN’s Daytime Chicago.
Add a Personal Touch:
Incorporate heirloom pieces into your holiday decor! The object doesn’t even have to be related to the holidays. Pick something that brings you joy and put the object in a shadow box or display it on a coffee table or bookshelf. In the end, it’s a personal, one-of-a-kind decoration that evokes feeling—that’s what makes it feel festive!
Elevate your display of framed family pictures or gallery wall with holiday themed art prints or words. Select a picture of two and remove them from the frames. Insert the holiday themed art or word to add a festive touch to your picture display.
Deck The Halls with Ornaments:
Ornaments don’t have to be your typical glass spheres. Bells and bows are a big trend that we are seeing right now. Metallics are huge—you can add shimmer to your tree by using gold, silver or bronze beads. And metallic tree tinsel is a fun way to add depth to your tree while adding the sparkle. Flowers—anywhere from oversized roses to hydrangeas. Insert the individual floral stems into sparse areas around the tree to fill it up.
Let There Be Light:
Incorporating an extra glow here and there throughout the house with light sources. Battery operated candles is an option. There’s no melting wax, no mess, no fumes—they come in so many shapes an sizes. They have tapered candles that come with clips that you can attach to a wreath or tree branches. I particularly love large battery operated candles that I can be put in vases, like this one in the picture.
I’m obsessed with battery operated lamps. The reason I am obsessed with this lighting source is because its a great way to create moody moments throughout the home. They are cordless, some have the option of being dimmable and they are mobile. You can move them from place to place, room to room.
Play with Festive Textures:
Incorporate textiles this holiday with texture—think fluffy faux furs, chenille and velvets. Add them to your home in forms of accent pillows and throw blankets. Pro-tip: confirm your current pillow sizes and just order the pillow cover. This way you are saving money and space—you can avoid finding space to store the pillow insert after the holidays.
